Sidings at Blackpool
The carriage sidings and facilities are being upgraded as part of the Preston to Blackpool North electrification project.
In the foreground, a road/rail mechanical shovel is loading new ballast into wagons for transfer to the work site.
In the background are the refuelling plant and a telecommunication mast.

Semaphore signals at Blackpool North
The station throat seen from the end of platform 5/6, before electrification and modernisation work. The semaphore signals and signal box (seen in the distance) will disappear, to be replaced by LED (presumably) signals controlled from Manchester.
The track has already been lifted from platforms 7/8 (out of picture to the left).
Platforms 1/2 will be extended (out of picture to the right) to accommodate Pendolino trains (on direct services to London).
