Streetlights in Clifton Street
A very strange design indeed. According to the Electrical Review: "Along Church, Corporation and Clifton Streets, a further 18 Robe ColorSpot 2500E ATs encased in ... domes ... looking a bit like super space age street lights! These are located at strategic intervals along the street, casting their beams all around the floor, onto buildings and into the air, effectively creating a scene setting vibe for those about to turn into Birley Street and be blown away by the arches and main piece of light art."

Clifton Street
Wilde's Buildings (1893) at the end of Clifton Street is now the Blackpool branch of the Bradford & Bingley. The street is also home to a pair of unusual street sculptures about which I have no information.

Looking down Clifton Street
As I was passing Hogarth's on Clifton Street heading towards the Town Hall and North Pier. I heard the Red Arrows overhead. By the time I pointed my camera they has disappeared but blue contrails were still be seen in the sky.

Abingdon Street
Looking towards Church Street (beyond the pelican crossing lights) from the junction with Deansgate. The road on the right, behind the bus, is Clifton Street. R.B.Smyth, occupying the top storey and providing stock taking and inventory services to businesses appear to be still occupying the same premises 27 years after this photo was taken. In the foreground, Blackpool Corporation 586 awaits departure on the 3A service to Cleveleys. The vehicle is a Marshall bodied AEC Swift.

Night Bus For South Pier
Photographed in Clifton Street, Blackpool Corporation 587 waits to provide a local service from North Pier to South Pier. Behind is the roundabout at the junction with Talbot Road and the North Pier itself. This road is currently a one way street in the opposite direction to the way the bus is facing. Paul Turner advises me that buses will return to use Clifton Street in the very near future following the pedestrianisation of Church Street outside The Winter Gardens. He also informs me that the awning visible on the right of the bus is no longer there following a fire which destroyed Yates Bar in 2009.

Clifton Street
The end of Clifton Street is closed off for roadworks. As the street is normally used by buses, town centre services are much disrupted with buses diverted to use different stops.

On Abingdon Street
A little north of the centre of the town an unfashionable shopping district contains a high proportion of charity shops. The photograph shows a decidedly contemporary business trading in used mobile phones and looking to buy gold cheaply next door to a camera business striving to remain relevant in the digital age.
