Sign for the Crossed Peels
The Cross Peels is a public house on Baker Street. According to their website: 'The bakers, or baxters, were one of Stirling’s seven ancient craft guilds. Their emblem was two crossed baker’s shovels, known as crossed peels'.

The Athen?um, King Street
The tall clocktower of the Athenæum building dominates the view up King Street. The Athenæum is a category A listed building dating from 1817 (http://hsewsf.sedsh.gov.uk/hslive/portal.hsstart?P_HBNUM=41100 Historic Scotland Listed Building Report). The impressive porch, added on the front of the tower in 1859, is surmounted by the 'Wee Wallace' - a statue Scottish hero William Wallace (Image]).

The Steeple, King Street, Stirling
The Steeple, also known as the Athenaeum, was built on the site of a meat market in 1816-1817 as a library and meeting house.
It was designed by William Stirling of Dunblane.
By 1859 it was a gentleman's club and it was then that the porch was added.
The statue of William Wallace that now stands on the porch was commissioned by Peter Drummond, a seed merchant.

William Wallace, The Steeple, King Street, Stirling
The statue was commissioned by a seed merchant called Peter Drummond, but it wasn't much liked by the locals.
It stood for some time in the middle of King street where it became a traffic hazard before being placed on the top of the porch of "The Steeple".
