Ex-WD 2-10-0 on freight leaving Grangemouth, 1957
View northward from the A905 bridge towards the Grangemouth Docks and terminus of the ex-Caledonian line from Falkirk. The locomotive is BR No. 90757, being one of the 150 2-10-0s ordered by the WD for service overseas relatively late in World War Two and built by NB Loco. As WD No. 73781, it was delivered just after VE-Day in June 1945 and was not sent to the Continent. Instead, it was loaned to the LNER and worked from March Shed, then from 10/46 it was stored at Longmoor WD until 9/47, passed through Eastleigh SR Works and stored at Ringwood. Finally, after Nationalization, together with 24 others acquired by BR in 12/48, it was sent to work in the Scottish Region, becoming BR No. 90757 and surviving until 12/62.

Unlike many others who planned large housing estates those who designed Grangemouth scattered several small groups of shops amongst the houses.
