The Forth and Clyde Canal
This is Lock No 5 Bainsford where the canal passes under Grahams Road Falkirk.

Bainsford Bridge, Falkirk
This was originally a bascule bridge over the Forth and Clyde Canal; photos online show that the canal level was barely below road level. This was replaced first with a swing bridge and in the late 20th century with the present fixed bridge (the canal having to be lowered by means of a new lock).

Forth and Clyde Canal, Bainsford Bridge
Going under Grahams Road, Bainsford. The canal was restored as a Millennium project, but like most of its kind, it was rather poorly done. At the moment it is blocked by two bridges which don't work anymore(they are 15 years old!) and there is no sign of any repairs coming.

Lock, Bainsford

Lock on the Forth and Clyde Canal at Bainsford Bridge
This modern lock replaces one a little further downstream Image, in order to lower the canal level when Bainsford swing bridge was rebuilt as a fixed bridge.

Forth and Clyde Canal, Bainsford Bridge
This lock wasn't installed when the canal was originally built. It may well be a replacement for the missing one near Camelon. See Image The 1.25,000 map dated 1956 shows the Camelon lock as still in situation but no lock at Bainsford Bridge.
