Budleigh Salterton cliffs
These old red sandstone cliffs lie slightly inland from the beach. They are fronted by the local Budleigh pebble beds stratum, which elsewhere lies on top of the sandstone.

Salt has been panned in this area since Roman times. The concrete structure is a WWII pill box that covered the mouth of the River Otter.

Old lime kilns, Budleigh Salterton
The somewhat truncated remains of lime kilns at the foot of Salting Hill, giving their name to the adjacent car park, shown in Image The South West Coast Path and NCN52 both pass this spot.

The pebble beach at Budleigh Salterton
The big tractor in the middle distance was pushing pebbles into the sea at the shoreline - I can't think what the purpose of this might be, apart from keeping the driver employed.
