Exmouth: A La Ronde
A La Ronde is a unique 16-sided house, built on the instructions of two spinster cousins, Jane and Mary Parminter, on their return from a grand tour of Europe. The house was completed around 1796 and contains many objects brought back by them from their travels. The space in the roof contains a shell-encrusted gallery that is now so fragile that it can only be viewed by visitors by means of a closed-circuit television. This is the north-eastern façade. Originally the roof was thatched and the dormer windows and the catwalk are Victorian additions. The property is now owned by the National Trust.
