Giving a rather inadequate impression of the 16-sided nature of the house, and also the original green decor restored by the National Trust.

Shell gallery, A La Ronde
Before the National Trust acquired A la Ronde twenty years ago, the gallery was accessible to visitors. Now you have this glimpse up the staircase, and a room with closed-circuit television viewers which enable inspection (see Image); the gallery is too fragile and narrow to allow visitors.

Feather frieze, A La Ronde
This must have taken a long time. The frieze uses feathers "from many species of birds, including game birds, fowl, jays and parrots, laboriously stuck down with isinglass" http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-alaronde . Like the extraordinary shell gallery (Image), the work of the eccentric cousins Jane and Mary Parminter.

Shell gallery, A La Ronde, on CCTV
Visitors aren't allowed up into the gallery - see Image - but a room is devoted to monitors connected to cameras installed there; these are provided with controls which allow panning and zooming.
