United Reformed Church, 32 The Strand, Dawlish
Grade II Listed church of 1870. The first nonconformists church in Chapel Street, now Albert Street, was built in 1814 and had 25 members. Then in 1870 a new church by architect John Tarring was built at a total cost of £3,000. It was dedicated on 9th March 1871. In 1877 they purchased an organ from Gloucester Congregational Church. Adjacent land was acquired and a school hall built in 1884. The Congregational Church and the Presbyterian Church united in 1972 to form the United Reformed Church. It is now called The Strand Church. The church was re-roofed in 2008. The spire is 100ft (30.5m) high. £0.8m long term plans to update and refurbish the interior were finally approved in September 2010. In March 2012 the church completed a 25 year lease to The Strand Community trustees and became just another user of a community building.
