Barometer on the Shaftesbury Theatre, Dawlish
Where you might expect a clock at the top of a public building, is a barometer, perhaps implying that residents of a seaside town are more interested in the air pressure than the time. See
Image for context.

Shaftesbury Theatre, Brunswick Place, Dawlish
Built in 1881 as Shaftesbury Hall it was used for a variety of social functions. The theatre was purchased and opened in September 1959 by Dawlish Repertory Company, an amateur society. It has a seating capacity of 147 and a stage approximately 6m x 6m. The cottage at the rear was purchased in 1967 to provide additional space. Substantial refurbishment took place after a late 1990s appeal. Production lighting was significantly upgraded in 2015 and again in 2020 with redecoration of the auditorium when new air conditioning was installed.
