Tuckers Hall, Exeter
Behind this Victorian facade is a medieval hall, originally built as a chapel for the Guild of Weavers, Tuckers and Shearmen, and retaining its wagon roof. The building is on Fore Street, the steep hill that drops from Exeter's High Street down towards the River Exe.

Hand crafted
As befits being on the front of Tuckers Hall (incorporating Weavers, Fullers & Shearmen) this fetching coat of arms seems hand painted. The motto is 'Labor Labori Laborem Addit.' Just needs a little touching up. See Image] for the letterbox.

Gate, Tuckers Hall, Exeter
The gate in front of Image The coat of arms on the shield at the top can be seen at http://www.tuckershall.org.uk/index.html , a site which gives a brief account of the guild's history. It shows "a weavers shuttle, two burling irons, teasel frames and a pair of tuckers shears".(http://www.exetermemories.co.uk/EM/_buildings/tuckers_hall.php ). That's presumably a teazel with green leaves lower down.

The railings outside Tuckers Hall, Fore Street, Exeter
Tuckers Hall is the guild hall of the Incorporation of Weavers, Fullers & Shearmen in Exeter. For the 530th anniversary of the creation of this guild, new railings were installed. The design incorporates symbols of the wool trade, from a ram's horn and winding thread to a woven design, with shears, packing weights and a teasel. The gate symbolises the export trade in Devon wool.
