Before the car was invented
Exeter's old street layout can still be seen here in Friernhay Street. There is no parking - if you could get a car down here!

One of many striking buildings on the hill; this is a shop called Kitsch-U-Like. The narrow opening on the left is Friernhay Street.

The Mint
Perhaps more helpfully known as the Mint Tavern since 1962, as the tiny lane beside it leading off Fore Street is also "The Mint". According to http://www.exetermemories.co.uk/EM/3_Exeter_Pub_List.html , this was an apothecary's in 1838.

Fore Street, Exeter
Fore Street, seen here from opposite Image, drops steeply from the city centre towards the Exe, and contains some of Exeter's oldest buildings, especially on this northern side. The Mint Tavern, on the corner of the lane simply called "The Mint", has only been a pub in relatively recent times.
