The Old Smithy Inn is a popular and attractive thatched public house which serves good quality meals and an interesting selection of well kept real ales. http://www.theoldsmithyinn.co.uk/ The track on the right leads into the car park. The narrow lane off to the left leads towards the village of Welcombe.

Very comfortable, good local ales, and if you are looking for a meal - be hungry - the portions are generous.

The hottest July day on record ....
in the UK ... but not here at The Old Smithy Inn at Darracott, near Welcombe, in Devon. This is at 14:19 BST, and an extensive thunderstorm has been rumbling around for about an hour, bringing cloud down to ground level, and the drizzling has almost stopped. I guess the temperature has only reached about 22 deg C all day, but at Heathrow in London 36.7 deg C has been reported. I had a splendid lunch (with a pint of local real ale). The menu is interesting - not cheap, but high quality (you get what you pay for), and portions are substantial, so be hungry!

This image at 15:25 BST contrasts with another one http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4570576 taken just over an hour earlier. Now, it is still overcast but brighter and the rain has ceased. Elsewhere in England, temperatures were in the mid thirties Celsius, peaking at 36.7 deg C in London.
