Tantons Hotel, Bideford
Derelict and an eyesore from Bideford's ancient bridge, Tantons Hotel was the victim of a fire in May 2011, apparently started deliberately in an upstairs room. The company was subsequently fined for health and safety breaches; contemporary reviews suggest that the premises were shabby and well past their best. According to press reports the building was sold at auction in March 2014 for £242,000 although it is unclear what plans the purchaser has for it.

Bideford town hall and library
This building stands on the corner of Bridge Street and New Road, opposite the west end of the old Bideford Bridge which can be seen in the foreground. It was mostly constructed in 1905 to the design of the Birmingham architect, A.J.Dunn, in what Pevsner and Cherry describe as "quite a playful free Tudor" style. Behind it is St Mary's parish church.
