Beaver Inn
Pub in Irsha Street overlooking the Torridge Estuary. The pub's website says that it has been in existence for over 400 years, with possible reasons for the being reference to the beaver pelt hats worn by the Press Gangs enlisting sailors for the navy or to the trade in beaver pelts through Appledore and Bideford. The K6 telephone box is grade II listed - see www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1419351.

The Old Gaiety
Former cinema, The Gaiety, at 109 Irsha Street, converted to flats around 2010. It was originally a chapel (marked on the 1904 1:2,500 map as a "public hall"), and was converted to a cinema around 1920, subsequently closing around the 1950s. The capstones above the doors read HRV and 1893, the latter being the original building date. Irsha was once a hamlet separate from Appledore itself, with Irsha Street running the length of it. The houses date mainly from the 19th Century, but there are some earlier buildings.
