South Molton: The Square looking west
The width of Broad Street allows a pavement area to form the town square. The red-brick Old Post Office marks its west end, & immediately on the left the Medical Hall marks its east end. The C18th Guildhall is partially visible behind the trees. Until the completion of the North Devon Link Road in July 1989 this was the A361 - the main road to Barnstaple from Taunton & further east. On summer Saturdays it was used by thousands of motorists heading to Ilfracombe & other North Devon resorts. With the opening of the NDLR this road became the B3227 & South Molton became a quieter town!
