Another casualty along Torrs Park
Some of the fine brick buildings along this road have suffered loss. Next door were a couple of similar-looking buildings that are now demolished. This one was Glen Tor, a large hotel built in Victorian times, gutted by a fire - thought to be arson - in April, 2022. It had been left derelict for some time and was empty, although the flats in the adjoining part were also damaged badly in places. In previous times it served as a convent and the story persists that it was this building where celebrities Joan and Jackie Collins stayed after they were evacuated in WWII.

Collapse of the Glen Tor
Some of the Victorian brick-built hotels along Torrs Park have been lost. Some were demolished in accordance with the redevelopment, but this one - the Glen Tor - was empty when arson was committed. Here the side entrance and north side of the building have come down after the blaze.

Gutting the Glen Tor
After fire (a suspected arson) gutted the former Glen Tor hotel, the adjoining properties (flats for the most part) were affected by the blaze. Upper floors were badly affected by fire and then the water. Work is under way to establish repairs.
