Plaque marking the opening of Exeter By-Pass
This is on "Gallows Bridge" where the by-pass crosses the road to Honiton. For many motorists travelling to Devon and Cornwall, the Exeter by-pass was a serious bottleneck at holiday times. Traffic from both Bristol/Taunton and London (via Honiton) converged on this road and vehicles had to cross the river and canal.
