Lodge, Lister Close, Exeter
The foremost building must date from the 1830s, as it was the lodge to Gras Lawn, the house that James Veitch, son of nurseryman and plant importer John Veitch, built in 1838. It continued to serve as a lodge when the house became The Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Hospital in 1927. When the hospital moved to the Wonford site in 1990, a housing development (part of which can be seen in the background) was created, retaining some parts of the original house / hospital.

Monkey Puzzle tree in Wonford Road
The tree stands close to the entrance to the area used by Veitch's nursery in the 19th century. The Veitch family of nurserymen were responsible for the widespread introduction of this tree into Britain, and it is probable that it was planted by the business.
