The formal entrance to County Hall, Exeter
The gateway is seldom used for wheeled vehicles. Between the granite posts there is a chain and the county arms on the central spike. Beyond Topsham Road is the School for the Deaf, and on the distant skyline the hills above Exwick. Picture taken at noon on New Year's Day 2018

Fallen tree at Devon County Hall, Exeter
Seen from the Topsham Road, the mature tree had fallen in the February 2014 storms. The wall and hedge in front date from the time when the grounds of County Hall were the lands of Coaver House Image The tree probably dates from that time as well

Arms of Devon County Council at the entrance to their office grounds
The arms are on the ceremonial entrance to Devon County Council's estate, which is seldom opened to traffic. Pedestrians and cyclists have a path beside the gateposts; the posts once held the gates of Coaver House Image
