End of the Line at Meldon Quarry
Until recently the railhead at Meldon was part of a large granite quarry. That isn't working any more, but a big network of sidings remains, enabling the Dartmoor Railway to store all sorts of old stuff up here in various states of repair.

Dartmoor Railway - train at Meldon Station
The locomotive is No. D4167, a class 08 diesel electric shunting engine. This is its original BR number but it was latterly numbered as 08 937. It was built in 1962 and was sold to the owner of Meldon Quarry in 1994. This was my first trip behind an 08 although I often looked at the one that was rumbling away in a bay platform at Huddersfield Station (I don't think I ever saw it move).

Dartmoor Railway - cab of an 08 diesel electric shunting engine
The locomotive is class 08 diesel electric shunter No. D4167. This is a view into the cab from the platform at Meldon Station. The maximum speed is 15 miles per hour and this is marked by a red line on the lower of the two large angled gauges. The upper one of the pair is an ammeter measuring up to 1000 Amperes.
