View over a gate - with benchmark
There is a fine view over fields to higher ground beyond, south of the square. There is a benchmark on the right-hand stone gatepost. Awkwardly, it's on the hinge side of the post Image

An extraordinary lane cut in slate
Just by a slight bend in the road beyond Coryton Mill, this lane takes off straight up the contours. The walls are vertically cut slate, and the floor is largely bedrock. I could find no information about it at all. There is a sign at each end saying "Unsuitable for motors". There is evidence that not everybody accepts the instruction.

Benchmark on a gatepost
Not the easiest to get at, being on the hinge side of the gatepost Image, and a bit encrusted - but at least it is there, which is more than can be said for many of the benchmarks hereabout. https://www.bench-marks.org.uk/bm160290
