Carved stone post by the A377, in parish of Copplestone (Mid Devon District), 30m North of Courtney's Garage, on grass verge / bank above path, on North side of road. Exeter triangle erected by the Exeter turnpike trust in the 19th century. Anglo-Saxon Copplestone Cross, Copplestone
The structure in the middle of a junction is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and Grade I listed (the highest category). The 10th century Anglo-Saxon granite shaft stands on a 20th century stone pedestal in the Mid Devon village of Copplestone, which derives its name from this structure. Copplestone Cross, first mentioned in a charter in the year 947, may have been erected as a memorial to Bishop Putta who was murdered in 906.

Old Wayside Cross on the A377 in Copplestone
Copplestone Cross, a wayside cross with an old head, shaft and base. Set on a paved island at a fork in the A377 in the centre of the village in Copplestone parish.
