Shute Hill is a greensand outlier. It is well wooded, mostly with conifers but this is a wild scrubby broadleaved corner beside the A35.

Loughwood Baptist Meeting House, near Axminster
Now ! Is it me, or does that exposed stonework and stone buttresses, together with the shape of the thatch, make this end of the building look like a Frenchman wearing a beret, and sporting mutton-chop whiskers ?

This Baptist chapel, in the care of the National Trust who restored the thatched roof, was built in about 1653.
