A red & white For Sale notice is on one of the windows on the George Street side on the building in March 2017. The blue plaque http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5377937 on the Chard Street side of the building records that the Cross Keys Inn formerly on this site was destroyed by fire in 1759. It was rebuilt and opened in 1760 as the George Hotel, a coaching inn where at least 16 coaches a day stopped for a change of horses and a meal for the passengers.
