Boundary stone for ecclesiastical parishes
The worn stone marks the boundary of the parishes of St Sidwell's and Heavitree (St Michael and All Angels). The litter bin is a modern addition. The extent of Heavitree parish is shown in http://www.achurchnearyou.com/heavitree-st-michael-all-angels/. Formerly, it extended around much of the east of the city of Exeter, and several modern ecclesiastical parishes have been created by dividing its parish (including St Leonard's and St Mark's). The parish of St Sidwell's is now part of the united benefice of St Sidwell and St Matthew.
