A giant replaced by a giant
This very colourful fungus is Meripilus giganteus - a bracket fungus. Helpfully, a small information board details it as having infected a large Copper Beech that stood here until very recently. The tree was felled due to the fungus attacking the roots and causing it to become unsafe. It is now working its way through the underground remains and will eventually consume them.
