Old Milestone by the B3176, Bowd near Sidmouth
Carved stone post by the B3176, in parish of SIDMOUTH (EAST DEVON District), Bowd, just South of the complex junction with the A3052, on the verge, by hedge, just North of gateway, on South side of road. Sidmouth Facet, erected by the Sidmouth to Cullompton turnpike trust in the 19th century.
Inscription reads:-

Cancelled carved benchmark on front base.

Cancelled Benchmark, milestone B3176
In the grass verge on the S side of the road. There does not appear to be any easily available record of this BM from 1888 to 1968. (So no ASL known). From the look of the terrain there is little doubt the milestone was moved at some point as the road was widened.
