The Salcombe Regis Thorn at Thorn Cross
The inscription reads:The Salcombe Regis Thorn. A thorn tree has been maintained here since Saxon times when it marked the boundary between the cultivated field of the combe and the open common of the hill. It has give the name thorn to the adjacent house where the manor court was held and to the surrounding farm.
