Market, Waltham Cross
The market is just packing away early on Saturday afternoon. The building occupied by the Welsh Harp pub dates from C16 as do many of the buildings in the market square.

5 Church Street, Waltham Abbey
In the mid-1960s the frontage of this former Victorian villa was "converted in the most insensitive manner" according to Pevsner's Architectural Guide to Essex. It is hard to make out what its present use is.

Welsh Harp
A beautiful 16th century timbered building with Grade II listed status on Church Street close to the abbey ruins. The pub is currently a McMullens house which is a Hertfordshire brewery. However, being just across the border in Essex, this is very much their home territory.

Waltham Abbey is a small town, which is now on the edge of London. It contains the Waltham Abbey Church and it is said to mark the final resting place of King Harold. The Welsh Harp is a very old inn in the square.
