The Four Swans, Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire
Looking up on entering the pedestrianised area near Fishpools of what was formerly the High Street, you see these swans, which are all that remains of the gallows sign of the old Four Swans Inn. The Inn was one of the original "post houses" set up in the 1500s where men carrying mail, and later the regular mail coaches, could change horses. It was sadly demolished in the late 1960s to make way for the Pavilion shopping centre and multi storey car park, a far from attractive building. http://www.walthamx.co.uk/history.php
