Speed of Light road closure, Holyrood Park
The 'Speed of Light' event has been a human light show based on runners wearing LED light suits following paths on the hillsides in Holyrood Park as darkness falls, watched by groups of paying spectators taking a more leisurely route. The last performance of this month-long event will be tomorrow at the end of the Edinburgh Festival.

Cranston Hotels advertisement, Abbeyhill Junction
A faded advertisement for Cranston Temperance Hotels in Edinburgh, Glasgow and London, partly obscured by scaffolding on industrial dwellings undergoing a roof repair. The advertisement was positioned to be viewed from trains approaching Edinburgh on the east coast main line and from the platforms and south-bound trains at the long-defunct Abbeyhill Station. At one time through trains ran from Leith Central to Glasgow Central.
Robert Cranston was a Scottish Chartist who opened a coffee house and temperance hotel on Princes Street in Edinburgh in 1843. The “Old Waverley Hotel” is still going strong today. When Victorian road improvements were made, Cranston Street off the Canongate was named in his honour.

Clockmill Lane railway bridge
In 1818, the lane was cut in two by the new London Road which replaced the old road to Haddington that runs alongside the Queen's Park. It was further altered around 1845 to accommodate the new North British Railway line, creating a Z-bend under the bridge which can be dangerous for faster-moving modern traffic. Drivers coming from either side sound their horns on approach, making this otherwise tranquil spot a little noisy from time to time.
