Former temporary Youth Hostel, Portobello, Edinburgh
This impressive building was the former Ramsay Technical Institute, on Inchview Terrace, Portobello. In 1970 there was an arrangement to use it as a temporary arrangement, with 200 beds, while the Bruntsfield Youth Hostel in the City was to be renovated. The plans were delayed, however, the Portobello premises being brought into use in 1972 (and possibly early 1973), when a staggering 20,000 overnights were recorded.

Former Schultze chocolate factory
Built in the early 20th century as a chocolate factory, this became the object of some panic in World War I due to its German owner and the high specification of the construction. Combined with the flat roof it was believed to have been built with possible military uses in mind. Later it was the Ramsay Technical Institute and then Ramsay Annexe of Telford College it is now residential.
