Flats in Edinburgh's Montgomery Street
These flats, on the corner of Montgomery Street and Windsor Street, have been cleaned up to reveal their attractive original stonework. Edinburgh's New Town must have been a genteel place when first built but soon became blackened, living up to the city's nickname of "Auld Reekie". With today's clean air, hopefully they'll now stay clean for a long time.

Leith Walk School playground mural
A splurge of creativity on the facade of an old engineering works adjoining the school. It has taken half a century to move from the 'Victorian' spartanism of the 1950s to the hallucinatory, psychedelic '60s. Must be the influence of Austin Powers. The sculptor, Eduardo Paolozzi, grew up near the foot of Leith Walk and attended this school.
