The Re-Emergence of Dedridge Burn
There must be an incredible network of underground watercourses in Livingston. A decent amount of water flows into this burn from underneath the large Bankton Mains Park recreation park.
Dedridge Burn disappears underneath Alderstone Road nearly a mile SouthWest of here, not long after it flows through a picturesque pond. The footpath on the East side of the park roughly follows some of its former overground route so it seems likely that a steep rubbish-strewn balancing pond, also on the East side of the park, also discharges into here eventually.

A Bridge under a Bridge
A concrete footbridge under a concrete road bridge crossing Dedridge Burn. Both no doubt built in the 1960s when the A71 was rerouted to ease the traffic through East Calder and Mid Calder, and accommodate the building of Livingston newtown. Older locals still refer to this section of the road as The Bypass.

Dedridge Burn and Plantation
Dedridge Burn Plantation survived having a large town built around it and is now one of several mature woodlands within Livingston. It appears, more or less the same shape in 19th century maps of Midlothian.
