Wheel for Sluice Gate on Canal Feeder
Almost all the sluice gates found on country walks are rusty relics from the past, so unusual to see a shiny new operational one. A few yards upstream from the sluice gate, riverside of the canal feeder, are four or five plastic pipes disappearing into the canal feeder bank, with sandbags covering the bottom of their openings to prevent debris causing blockages. Presumably the flow can get quite heavy as the canal, along with its overflow which drops the water to the River Almond about 70 feet below, is less than a mile from here.

Field between Canal Feeder and River Almond
The canal feeder on the right of the picture eventually leads into a basin just East of Lin's Mill Aqueduct, which is about half a mile North of the camera location. The footpath runs alongside the canal feeder until it disappears into a very long culvert, which must be a hundred yards or so long, and takes the feeder underneath the road to the car park located at the basin. This section of the River Almond serves as the boundary between Edinburgh and West Lothian - the picture is from the Edinburgh side.
