Dusk over Glendevon Gate
The pond has formed since the track to the now abandoned Auldcathie landfill area was raised and strengthened for heavy lorries, forming an artificial dam in the corner of the field. Sallows soon colonised the wet ground and Mallard and Moorhen now nest there. The pond does become completely dry during the early autumn and was actually ploughed for wheat during October this year, only to flood again in October as the crop emerged. See Image The houses comprise part of the Glendevon Gate development, the first of c.3450 new properties which will be constructed around Winchburgh in the next few years.

Flood or Pond?
When does a flood become a pond? This is just beside where the Auldcathie track leaves the B 9080, and it doesn't feature on the maps.

Snow at Glendevon
The busy B9080 road runs in a straight line from Winchburgh village centre in the distance and has now been re-aligned to avoid the line of trees which now form one side of a triangular island. The car is parked on the original road which now gives access to the new housing development which extends along the lane to Glendevon Pond.

Deep snow on the Auldcathie track.
It was hard going in knee-deep snow as I walked the track towards Priestinch canal bridge. This view looks back across the B9080 road towards Glendevon Farm.
