Former Engineering Works
This decaying building on Granton Park avenue is possibly the UK's earliest car factory. It was built in 1898 for the Madelvic Motor Carriage Company, who made electric cars. Madelvic folded and the site was taken over by the Kingsburgh Motor Company, and then by Stirlings Motor Carriages Ltd. Sadly, no examples appear to have survived of these companies' output. In later years the buildings housed a wire-manufacturing company. They have lain empty since 2001, caught in redevelopment limbo.

Derelict Factory
A handy opening at ground level allowed me to poke my camera lens through and get an interior shot of this derelict factory on Granton Park Avenue. The building was possibly the UK's first ever car factory, see Image

United Wireworks building, Granton
Industrial ruins in an area once full of factories, railways and of course, the gas works. The road is the site of the Caledonian Railway's Granton branch. Edinburgh's ports had two extensive networks supplying them independently, originally the Caledonian and North British railways.
