Champfleurie House
Champfleurie gets its name from the French meaning "flowery field" and comes from the time when Mary Queen of Scots and her French speaking ladies would ride out into this part of the countryside from nearby Linlithgow Palace

Ash Regeneration
There's a mature ash above my head, and a couple of self-seeded saplings by the wall. Why on earth was it thought necessary, desirable or appropriate to import ash saplings from Europe, when they grow so readily here?

Muckspreading in the Snow
The higher ground beyond the field is a spoil heap - a result of one of the many shale mining operations that sprung up around West Lothian 100 - 150 years ago. There were shale mines and an oil works located close by.

Stone post by the B9080, in parish of Linlithgow (West Lothian District), near Champfleurie House, in wall opposite bus stop, just West of entrance to House, North side of road.

Old milestone
A view showing the wall just west of the entrance to Champfleurie House on the B9080 with the milestone from the Linlithgowshire and Stirling Joint Trust first enacted in 1752. There is weathered horizontal broaching on the front and the cut benchmark at the base. EDIN/14 has weathered away.
