Epiphyte at Lauriston Castle
An epiphyte is a plant that grows on another plant. They are not parasitic on the supporting plant. They are especially common in the humid tropics e.g., orchids and bromeliads, but they are also common in temperate regions, especially as ferns, mosses and liverworts. Here a sapling of a Sorbus species has grown in the fork of a large Sycamore [Acer pseudoplatanus] on the drive to Lauriston Castle.
