Dean Park Mews
There is a maze of mews between the Georgian streets of Stockbridge and the Victorian tenements of Comely Bank. This is part of Dean Park Mews, a cul-de-sac overlooked by the taller buildings of Dean Park Crescent. Originally mews were where hawks and falcons were housed, and later they were for stabling horses and carriages. Many of the mews in Edinburgh have now been converted into living space, and are much sought after. One of the old meanings of 'mew' was 'a hiding place' which sometimes seems appropriate when one is trying to find an address in one of them.

St Bernard's School
Originally St Bernard's Public School, later St Bernard's Primary School, and latterly St Bernard's Education Centre, the building is now abandoned and boarded up. The style is Renaissance, roughly based on Heriot's Hospital in Lauriston place, designed for George Heriot's Trust by John Chesser in 1874-7 with an extension by Robert Wilson in 1887. It is a category B listed building.
