Waitrose Supermarket
You can't really blame Waitrose for this singularly soulless building on Comely Bank, because they didn't build it. If I recall correctly it started out as a Safeway, and was also at one time a Sainsbury's. Even a brash Tesco would be less of a blot on the streetscape than this. One lives in hope that they may one day knock it down and build something less ugly.

Modern Flats on Comely Bank
A mounted policewoman is overtaken by a motorcycle outside a modern block of flats on the south side of Comely Bank. This makes a pleasant change from trying to avoid images of blurred white vans obscuring the view.

39 Comely Bank
St Ninian's Church is to the left of this modern block. I note the striped bollards for reserved parking spaces, and wonder whether the car park is also insufficient for the demand.

Roof car park, Comely Bank
Getting to the rooftop car park is not a task for the faint hearted. There are barely negotiable bends with lots of concrete eager to meet your paintwork. This is easily the tightest spot I have ever driven into and out of yet. I will not be back. There is expensive on street parking nearby.
The shop was built in the 1980s and is now operated by Waitrose, an unusual shop in Scotland.

St Ninian's Church
This modest church, tucked away between the Royal Mail sorting office and a block of flats, belongs to the Scottish Episcopal Church. See http://www.stninians-edinburgh.org.uk/

Comely Bank Sorting Office
This is where you have to come if you're out when the postman tries to deliver parcels or special deliveries in north-west Edinburgh. There are a few parking spaces for customers collecting items from the office reached by the ramp at the right, and some of the most vicious speed bumps in the city. Fortunately these can be evaded by driving (very cautiously) on the right!
