On the edge of the Quartermile
The back of a Lauriston Place tenement on the north side of a hole in the ground which will soon disappear under new buildings. Curious that one gable is harled and the corresponding gable not.

Multi-purpose instruction notice
Here on Lauriston Place which is, I think, used as a park for coaches bringing parties to the Edinburgh Tattoo, but also appropriately on the railings of George Heriot's School. With complaints about the price of fuel I can never understand why many professional drivers keep their engines running unnecessarily, annoyingly and pollutingly.

The Vennel
The Vennel is the narrow lane that runs from Lauriston Place alongside the old town wall and slopes downhill into the Grassmarket. The name is believed to be of French origin, meaning "the funnel".
