The Hopetoun, Main Street
A sign above the entrance gives the date of establishment as 1737, though variations in the stonework suggest the building has been remodelled at some point with the upper storey being perhaps added later.

Ormiston Post Office
Taken on a day when it was leaked that the Government (London version) had decided to close down several thousand rural post offices. That will tie in nicely with the carbon rationed future then? At least there is a handy bus stop to pop down to Tranent or even Edinburgh.

Ormiston
The Mercat Cross, in the middle of the broad main street of this village. Ormiston was to have been a sizable town, but it never took off. However the coming of coal mining led to an expansion of the village.

An unusual house with a prominent oriel window. It looks 18th century but 'The Buildings of Scotland' says it was the contribution of John Clark, who took over the Ormiston Coal Company in 1903.
