This present church was built in 1805 in the Gothic style. It is the third church to stand on this spot. Its spire is reputed to be 99 feet tall to avoid paying a tax on spires over 100 feet ! It was funded by John Fletcher Campbell in memory of his ancestors, the Fletchers of Saltoun. Below the church are the burial Vaults of the Fletchers of Saltoun Hall. Interred there is the body of Andrew Fletcher 1655-1716, politician and writer.

The B6355 from Gifford leaves the village to head downhill to Pencaitland. There is a constriction on the road to slow traffic approaching the school.

This fountain is in memory of John Fletcher of Saltoun 1827-1903. He was beloved by all on his estate. It was erected by his beloved wife Bertha. Saltoun Kirk is just across the road.

The present church was built in 1805 in the Gothic style and funded by John Fletcher Campbell in memory of his ancestors - the Fletchers of Saltoun. Perhaps the best known minister was Gilbert Burnett who went on to be Bishop of Salisbury. (Note the spire at Saltoun is reminiscent - in proportion - of the spire at Salisbury Cathedral.) The great Scottish politician, Andrew Fletcher is buried at Saltoun. For his great fight against the union with England, Andrew became known, in his lifetime and beyond, as 'The Patriot' There have been, at least, two other churches at Saltoun, dating back to the 12th century. The present kirk stands in the village of East Saltoun in the heart of the Parish.

View towards the village from the Pencaitland end. There had been a storm followed by heavy snowfall. The snow was now melting fast, but hung around a little further inland and higher up.

Sunlight shining through a stained glass window on an opposite wall is reflected on these plain windows.

The inscription on the fountain reads: In loving memory of John Fletcher of Saltoun born at Saltoun February 7 1827 and died there January 17 1903. He was beloved by all on his estate. This fountain is erected by his devoted wife Bertha.
