Chalmers Memorial Church
This is the former United Free Church, now a Church of Scotland. In 'The Buildings of Scotland' it is described as a highly original work of 1904-1905 by Edinburgh-based architects George Wilson and Arthur George Sydney Mitchell. The exterior features raked buttresses and a saddleback tower with an unusual spirelet, but its greatest glory is the interior. I was able to enter and admire it, but could not photograph it for fear of disturbing the choir practice which was in progress. It is surely unusual for the Free Church to be more elaborate and remarkable than the Image] of the same village.
