Dalmeny Kirk
I have recently spent some time in Languedoc, so was taken by surprise to see one of "their" churches here. A 12th century romanesque church, very old by Scottish standards and most unusual.

Dalmeny War Memorial
No matter how small the village, you can be sure of finding a memorial to the local men who lost their lives in the Great War. Scots have always been overproportionately represented in the British Army; a greater percentage of them dying in the war compared with the other home nations. Almost every Scottish family was affected. According to the historian Christopher Smout, "It is still not known how many Scots died in the war. One well-argued estimate put the figure at 110,000, equivalent to about 10 per cent of the Scottish male population aged between sixteen and fifty, and probably to about 15 per cent of total British war dead — the sacrifice was higher in proportionate terms than for any other country in the Empire." (A Century Of The Scottish People, 1830-1950)
