This sign, by the entrance to the South Queensferry Registration Office, is understandable. It would never do for confetti to be blowing all over the street making the place look untidy.

The houses on the south side of the High Street are mostly on terraces above the level of the cobbled roadway. It's not easy to photograph them, because the sun is always in the wrong place, and there are not too many gaps in the traffic.
