Model of the Kirk
My guide book drew my attention to this model showing the kirk as it was in the 1820s, and the Minister was kind enough to allow me to go in and take a couple of photographs. This is the south elevation of the model, showing how the great south door once extended some way out from the wall. Compare Image

Palm Sunday
At the east door of the kirk, the minister, palm frond in hand, greets members of her congregation as they emerge after morning service on Palm Sunday. The east door was originally the north door of the nave, but was moved here when the extension was built on the north side in 1883. It is plainer than the great south door, but in better condition.

Kirkliston Parish Church.
Parts of the kirk are over 800 years old and are reputedly relics from the Knights Templar. At one time the village was called Temple Liston

The South Doorway
Long ago built up, this Romanesque arch is the finest feature of the kirk, though it is sadly in poor repair. The arch incorporates four orders, mouldings and chevrons alternating, and the pillars have foliage capitals. It would originally have had more masonry projecting above it.

Kirkliston Parish Kirk
The west end of the kirk, on the left in this view, is the oldest. The style of buttress and the small size of the lancets in the tower date it to the late 12th century. The main Image] is the most significant part of the building.
