Mauricewood Miners' Memorial, off Mauricewood Road
A memorial erected in 1989 to the memory of 63 men and boys who died in a fire in the Mauricewood Pit in 1889. It was the initiative of Alan Montgomery, an ex-miner from Danderhall who became a local councillor in the area.

Penicuik, Edinburgh Road
Penicuik is a town on the A701 midway between Edinburgh and Peebles. It lies on the west bank of the River North Esk, east of the Pentland Hills. The town's name, which is pronounced 'Pennycook', is derived from Pen Y Cog, meaning "Hill of the Cuckoo".
